Conduct an analysis of your own or a close other's experience with a serious physical health problem (e.g., cancer, heart disease). Analyze the experience with specific reference, must use at least 5 scholarly sources to back up your insights.
Clearly identify the health concern and provide a brief background of the patient's demographics. (Ex. Age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, previous health concerns, religious beliefs, social support, etc.)
Describe the physical symptoms of this serious physical health problem, making sure to reference the physiological concepts
Using the biopsychosocial model, explain the patient's illness or health problem and how it impacted the patient biologically, psychologically, and socially.
Describe the quality of the communication that took place amongst the patient and other parties, such as their doctor(s), family members, coworkers, etc. Was the quality of communication effective? Why or why not?
How did the person (and close others) adjust to the health problem? Analyze your/their coping strategies. Were these strategies effective? Why or why not? Be specific!
What factors helped and/or hindered the patient's adjustment to the problem?
What factors might be altered to improve your/their experience with the problem?
Provide at least 3 different examples of how different aspects of this person's culture either positively or negatively influenced their health problem.
