How did the double helix DNA structure evolve from plasmids?

Eukaryotic double helix DNA structures are very different from that of the prokaryotic circular plasmids. If Eukaryotes evolved from "LUCA," i.e., the last common ancestor, which we assume to have had plasmids, what were the steps in the evolution of the DNA structure? It is difficult for me to wrap my head around these two very different structures being related.
