Homework: Religion- Evangelistic Outreach Project
Overview
When considering our Lord's mandate to spread the gospel to those who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, you are called upon to consider ways to tell others the good news of Jesus. Since our Lord has given you the mandate to communicate the gospel (cf. Mt. 28:18-20), you need to think of ways to best reach various people groups (i.e., larger groups of people who share a common heritage or geographical location) with the message of salvation. Formulating a strategy of an evangelistic outreach event and collaborating with church leaders regarding this strategy can help seize an opportunity to proclaim the gospel and evangelize those who need to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior (cf. Col. 4:5).
Instructions
For this homework, you are required to collaborate with the leadership of your local church and discuss with them the formulated strategic plan for your evangelistic event. You will need to arrange a time when you can meet with them (i.e, face-to-face or online) and discuss with them the particulars of your strategic plan. Ask your church leadership to meet with you by telling them that you are enrolled in an evangelism course and have been assigned to formulate a plan for an evangelistic outreach event. The items that you will need to discuss with them will correspond to the broad list of items included in your formulated plan: These are as follows:
1) Your Target Audience
2) Your Outreach Event
3) Your Promotional Strategy
4) Your Event Details
5) Your Presentation of the Gospel
Prior to meeting with your local church leadership, provide them copies of your formulated plan so that each member of the team has the opportunity to read your proposal. Ask each team member to read your plan in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming collaborative session. Encourage them to prepare questions to ask you, along with additional ideas that they might desire to share with you.
During the formal collaborative meeting, follow this procedure and these guidelines:
A. Do not restate the details in your formulated plan. Each team member should already understand what was contained in the document.
B. Ask them for their input (i.e., questions, advice, direction, etc.) regarding the specific areas mentioned above that are included in your formulated plan document.
C. Ask them about how they would generally approach the outreach event and coordinate its implementation.
D. Ask them if they could see this event taking place within the next one to two years.
E. Take notes for yourself regarding the details of the conversation so that you can compose your collaboration paper (see below).
F. There is not a specific time requirement for the meeting, but you will want to respect the time of each team member. Usually, a one-hour meeting should be sufficient.
G. Even though you may be the leader of the meeting, your desire needs to be that you want your church leadership to help you in thinking through your proposed outreach event and the steps it will take to see it happen in the next one to two years.
H. Be willing to listen more and talk less. This collaboration meeting is a time for you to hear from your church leaders and gather more information about your outreach event's viability and the real possibility of implementation. However, since this is a conversation that you are having with your church leadership, you will need to speak to specific aspects of your plan and clarify any areas of your plan for them.
By the time your meeting is concluded, you will have learned much more about your evangelistic outreach plan. You will also have experienced the joy of learning why it is important to partner with a local church when facilitating evangelistic outreach events.
After your meeting, you must report what you learned from your collaboration meeting. Your report must be two pages in length. To compose your report, you will need to follow this structure:
A. Team Member's Comments Regarding Specific Areas of Your Plan:
a. Their thoughts regarding your target audience.
b. Their thoughts regarding your outreach event.
c. Their thoughts regarding your promotional strategy.
d. Their thoughts regarding your event details.
e. Their thoughts regarding your presentation of the gospel.
B. Specific Areas of Your Plan that You Will Keep, Revise, or Remove
a. Areas of your plan that are needed and kept in the plan.
b. Areas of your plan that you will need to revise.
c. Areas of your plan that you will need to remove and re-formulate.
C. What You Learned from the Collaboration Process with Your Church Leadership
a. How did this conversation affect you emotionally?
b. How did this conversation affect you practically?
c. Any other thoughts?
