The professor asks us to watch a musical show performed by students at school and then write a performance response for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTv_bjLxiEY This is the show that I watched, it is called "First Date". This video is not exact the same as I watched at school, but it is pretty similar.
You will be required to purchase a ticket for ($5/students) and attend a performance of the Fall Theatre production (dates below). You will then write a 3-4 page analysis paper focusing on two (2) of the actors' performances, utilizing concepts and vocabulary covered in the course.
• Review/critique the production, utilizing concepts and vocabulary introduced in the course.
• Note any deviations from your idea of what a "standard" production is and try to find a good explanation for that deviation. (Do you think the director is trying to "say" something new or different? Is the show different from what you expected?)
• Consider some of the following:
o Why the choice of costumes, and why the set design?
o How did the actors deliver their lines/songs (seriously, comically, realistically, formally)? Were there any significant actions or gestures that contributed to the play's meaning?
o Were any "special effects" utilized (consider lighting, sound, audience participation, machinery)?
o What kind of stage does the director have at their disposal? What kinds of restrictions does the stage impose on the director concerning movement and set design?
• Focus on two (2) of the actors' performances, utilizing concepts and vocabulary covered in the course.
• Describe important elements of the production and evaluate them.
• Did you like the production? Why or why not?
