The 17th century in Europe was known as the Scientific Revolution, a period of new scientific thought, discovery, and emerging knowledge based upon the natural world. The following century became known as the Enlightenment. Enlightenment writers were prolific, due to the new printing press. They popularized scientific discoveries of the prior century, new technologies, philosophies, political thought and importantly, encouraged change.

1. Select one of the Scientific Revolution scientists/writers or Enlightenment thinkers/writers and consider their contributions to society.
2. Reflect on how their thinking created change in society, scientific knowledge, technology, politics, religion, culture or artistic expression.
3. Add examples that support your perception of this change.
