As you have seen in this activity, extracting DNA from humans is very easy. In fact, you could extract human DNA with dish soap and gatorade (as demonstrated in the hands-on version of this lab). Since DNA is so easy to get from tiny amounts of tissue, we have been able to develop many uses for DNA.

One set of methods that has been well developed recently is the matching of DNA found at crime scenes to DNA collected from people. However, the database of DNA samples includes mostly convicted felons and people in jobs where DNA samples are taken such as military.

Some people have argued that we should collect DNA from every person living in the United States, either at birth or later. Do you support this idea? Why or why not?
