How culture drives behaviors
It is based on the TEDTalk shown below (link). In my estimation, the video addresses a fundamental intercultural communication concept of how our surrounding culture guides or directs our actions in many ways. It is also a preface to the cultural theory known as
the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis.
Some ideas/questions to get us rolling along:
? How does our culture "drive" our behavior?
? What are ways that culture guides or directs our behavior and actions?
? Do you agree or disagree that culture "drives" behavior? Why? Why not?
? Based on your own experiences, what would be an example of how culture directed your own behavior?
? What would be a specific example of how culture directed your behavior in a communication (intercultural) situation?
? How can we become more aware of how our culture impede or enhance our communication exchanges with someone from a different home culture?
At least 1 substantive (1-page) posting is required per week in order to possibly earn full credit.
