Question: The concept of functional and innovative products proposed by Marshal Fisher shows that the supply chain strategy of functional products should focus on cost reduction, while innovative products' supply chains emphasize on the responsive time. Intuitively, functional products should use outsource to take the benefit of the low production cost in oversea, but innovative products should keep control within their own hands. But in reality we see totally different scenarios. For companies like Coca Cola and P&G, they still keep all production within their own hand, while for most computer and electronic companies, outsourcing is widely used. How could you explain this conflict?
