Question: Helena became very frustrated while caring for Gwon Chin, a seventy-nine-year-old Korean man who had recently suffered a stroke. Her frustration and impatience were aimed at Mr. Gwon's wife and daughter. Since Mr. Gwon spoke only Korean, she had asked his bilingual daughter to tell her father not to get out of bed because his gait was unsteady. Helena was afraid he would fall and hurt himself. Throughout the day, however, Mr. Gwon continued to attempt to get out of bed. He became very agitated, and his wife and daughter seemed almost afraid of him. When Helena questioned the daughter about it, she would only say that her father was "confused." Eventually Helena called on a Korean nurse to help her. When the nurse told Mr. Gwon not to get out of bed because he might fall, he asked in a surprised tone, "Why would I fall?" When the nurse explained that he was unsteady from the stroke, the patient was shocked. "I had a stroke?!" Helena was in disbelief.
