Tyler Marshall, RN, is a nurse on an inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit. One of Tyler's patients, 16-year-old Jayden Culbertson, is being discharged home today, and Tyler is going over Jayden's medications with him and his parents. Jayden asks to speak to Tyler privately for a moment, telling his parents that he wants to thank Tyler. Jayden then tells Tyler that as soon as he gets home, he is going to send Tyler a "friend request" on Facebook and he is looking forward to keeping up with Tyler now that he is leaving the hospital.
Tyler, recognizing the boundary crossing that this would entail, tells Jayden that he will not be able to accept his request and explains why. Jayden bursts into tears and accuses Tyler of being mean and "a fake." Jayden's parents are confused when they return to the room.
