Indigenous people's identity has been profoundly affected by colonization (Canadian and provincial law-making, legislation, the effects of urbanization), and the best remedy to the impact of colonization on Indigenous identity is to legislate all forms of Indigenous identity and entrench them in Canadian laws.
•First paragraph - Talk about how colonization has had a vast effect on the indigenous people. Mention the fact that indigenous peoples face many challenges in order to get hold of their traditions, cultural and history. Mention residential schools (urbanization?), laws that have affected these people (second talking point), mention that there needs to be a remedy to fix this issue. Historical context?
•Second paragraph - Brief history of residential schools, how it has affected aboriginal culture and traditions. Talk about how it has taken away their identity and how this colonization and assimilation greatly impacted indigenous peoples across many generations. Get minimum 1-2 sources.
•Third paragraph - talk about the best way to remedy this and give indigenous peoples their voices back. Mention land acknowledgements as a step for awareness, and one other point in order to remedy the impact of colonization. 1-2 sources on this.
•Final paragraph - Talk about the importance of indigenous identity. Talk about the mistreatment over the years in many forms, laws, residential schools etc. This needs to be remedied in order to give the people their voice back, give them sense of culture and to treat them as equals in the eye of the government.
