Homework: Leadership Perspectives Development Plan
Review Dann's eight leadership perspectives to reflect and select three as a focus for improvement.
"The notion of actively pursuing your own leadership development means, in a practical sense, that you commit yourself to a path of continual leadership development, a path that ensures you build on your existing strengths and areas for improvement in an ongoing way" (Dann, 2022, p. 10). Leaders must hone several viewpoints about leading to recognize potential pitfalls and challenges which could upend their effectiveness.
In this homework, you will use the eight perspectives presented in Chapter 2 of Paul L. Dann's Managing and Leading Nonprofit Organizations: A Framework for Success (2022) to compose a personal leadership perspectives development plan.
Step I: Review and Select
Review Dann's eight leadership perspectives. Reflect on how well you currently demonstrate each of the eight perspectives and select three as a focus for improvement.
Step II: Analyze and Brainstorm
Analyze strategies for developing leadership perspectives at the end of Chapter 2. Then, brainstorm answers to the following questions:
1. What role does grit play in one or more of the leadership perspectives you selected for development?
2. How can you develop the grit needed?
3. Who will mentor you in this journey?
4. What measurable objectives can you set for yourself to develop each perspective?
5. What resources and actions are needed to meet those objectives?
6. What strategies will you use to develop your three chosen leadership perspectives?
7. You will incorporate this brainstorming into your plan.
Step III: Download and Compose
Download the Personal Leadership Perspectives Development Plan template and compose your plan.
This exercise is intended to guide mindfulness about practical leadership applications. Adjust this template as needed to include tables, bullets, subheadings, or other features. This is your plan; personalize it!
