Two of the proxy wars that are the most famous and significant are the Korean War and the Vietnam War (though neither was truly a "war," since war was never officially declared in either instance). One was considered a qualified success (even if it was resolved in an uneasy armistice), the other an unequivocal failure.

How can we compare these two conflicts? What were their causes? How were they fought? Why were their outcomes so different? What can they tell us about the nature of the Post-war Era?
