On the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing and the conviction of the living terrorist, hopefully nothing will happen this month, that's review how terrorist may use an explosive device to disrupt a sporting event. The Boston Police did an excellent job of catching the terrorists. Many of you on your midterm we're still confusing dirty bombs and nuclear devices but don't forget, a chemical bomb could also be used. It's unlikely that terrorst would explode a bio weapon since the explosion may render the agent useless. But a good delivery system would be a drone.
For this week chose a radiological or chemical dispersal device. The bombing in Boston would have been more lethal had the terrorists used some type of radiological source but a chemical agent sprayed over a large crowd using a drone would also be lethal. For the discussion board, post the answer the following questions:
1) Where could terrorists obtain nuclear material or chemical agents in the Montgomery area and in the US? What resources are available locally to assist if there is a bombing?
2) How can the life cycle of the radioactive source or the chemical agent effect the lethality of the bomb and understand the differences between alpha, gamma, and beta radiation and persistent and non persistent agents.
3) Name an upcoming atheltic event this summer that would be a likely target and explain why you chose this target?
4) How could this target be better defended from a terroris bomb/explosive attack...if possible?
