Question: The utilitarian calculus at first seems to be a great idea. But looking further into it and the examples given show the real issues, whether intended or not, and the heaviness that comes with those. Utilitarianism for deciding who gets medical treatment has some good points and bad points. It's good because it has a system that looks at things like age, health, and what people contribute to society to make decisions that should help the most people. But, the bad part is that it means some people don't get treatment for the greater good, which can be unfair and cause ethical problems. It can be said that utilitarianism doesn't think enough about individual rights and the value of each person's life. This in my opinion is a failure. How can one say whose life is more valuable than the next?
