Framework My research study will examine the potential for increased employee engagement in the strategic planning process in a single case study, a specific university. The university has been challenged with how to engage more deeply with a wide variety of stakeholders in this process, and specifically to engage more authentically with employees in defining and refining the strategic plan. The practice of creating feedback loops to connect cascading levels of the organization in communication and adjustment of policy has been referred to as the "catchball" process by practitioners of lean thinking (Dennis, 2006; Nicholas, 2016).
