Introduction:
So far in the class, we have examined the rise and fall of the labor movements in America as a response to the problems of industrialization and automation starting from the late 19th century into the 21st century. For this historical analysis, you will examine another political and social responses during the Gilded Age that will have a lasting legacy in American history---the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act to prevent the potential invasion of workers from China coming to America to deprive and "steal" the white man of his jobs and opportunities.
