Overview of Assessment
This assessment is designed to assess students' understanding of Academic Integrity through practice. This assessment asks that students reflect on the use of Artificial Intelligence technology to write and complete assessments at University and reflect on the implications of this practice, with consideration for academic integrity and ethics in health practice and research. The use of Al in tertiary education can offer a range of opportunities to enhance student engagement, accessibility and collaboration. However, it can also pose a threat to academic integrity, with the increasing difficulty of differentiating between student-written work and Al-generated content.
This assessment will require students to use ChatGPT which is an Al technology program and then to examine the resulting Al text. Students will need to demonstrate an understanding of the how use of Chat GPT can place their own academic integrity and development of knowledge at risk.
Assessment Task
Students are asked to compare and reflect on the differences and similarities of an assessment written by them and ChatGPT, with considerations for academic integrity and ethics and professional practice in the healthcare system.
Please follow these five steps:
1) Choose an essay question:
• How can health practitioners/ health researchers/ laboratory scientists/ biomedical scientists (NOTE: choose one option to use in your essay question) use Al technology to enhance patient care?
• What are the ethical implications of using AI technology in applied health/ biomedical sciences (NOTE: choose one option to use in your essay question) education?
2) Write a short response (400 words, +/- 10%) to answer one of the questions provided, with references. Cite and reference a minimum of 3 peer reviewed journals or scholarly books.
3) Submit the same essay question to ChatGPT and copy the text written by ChatGPT into your assignment. Make sure you instruct ChatGPT to write only 400 words. Please note youwill have to sign-up to use ChatGPT, but this is free. You also need to include a screenshot of the answerprovided by ChatGPT
4) Carefully inspect the Al generated response. You might find that it is 'good enough', 'completely wrong', or somewhere in between. Your task is to try and disprove or validate it by finding appropriate scholarly references (peer reviewed journals or scholarly books). Cite and reference a minimum of 3 peer reviewed journals or scholarly books, which are different to the sources you used in your own, non- Al-generated response.
You do not need to re-write what ChatGPT produced, simply copy and paste it into your document, as the focus here is in how you validate
the work. Remember to use in-text referencing.
5) Write a short reflection (400 words, +/- 10%)
which addresses the following questions:
- Why is academic integrity important when learning about and demonstrating understanding of your profession?
- How does academic integrity align with the professional standards in your discipline?
- What are the dangers of using Al generated information to perform your professional role as a student?
