Eric is the Director of a small nonprofit agency that provides broad assistance to veterans in a three-state region of the Midwest. While his agency is affiliated with a larger, national network, he is largely responsible for the core functions of his firm, including fundraising, outreach, resource allocation, constituency relations, financial reporting, and agency growth. He leads of team of five, dedicated full-time staff and over 50 volunteers at any given time. While his agency is functioning reasonably well, he wishes he could do more; provide additional services and aid to a needy constituency, and grow his agency in personnel, outreach, jurisdiction and especially donations. He manages well on a day-to-day basis, but feels as if he has no real long-term plan or strategy for the agency. There is a growing and acute need for mental health services among his veterans and he wants to be able to meet their increasing demands and need for services and support. What he needs is a strategic plan, but he is ill equipped to begin the process. describe how Eric should begin to craft a strategic plan for his agency.
