Q 2. On July 22, 1946, the militant right wing group, known as the Irgun, a former sect of the Haganah, set off a massive bomb at the King David Hotel, then used as the headquarters of the British Army. The Irgun telephoned warnings, including one to the hotel's switchboard, however, this warning was ignored. The Irgun, disguised as Arab workers and hotel staff, planted a bomb in the basement, causing 91 deaths and injuring another 46 people. The attack would bring an eventual overreaction by the British government, which eventually alienated them from the Jewish government authority and population, leading to the eventual statehood of Israel.
