According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2018, the infant mortality rate for non-Hispanic Black infants was 10.8 deaths per 1,000 live births, compared to 4.6 deaths per 1,000 live births for non-Hispanic White infants (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2021). Another example is the higher prevalence of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, among African Americans and Hispanics compared to non-Hispanic Whites (American Heart Association, 2022).
