This chapter introduces you to how atmospheric pressure and wind patterns influence weather and climate. The chapter also provides a simplified model of the movement of all air within our atmosphere, known as The General Circulation of the Earth's Atmosphere. This model tries to simplify a very complex topic by generalizing how the air typically (and predictably) moves in various locations around the Earth based on latitude. According to model, The General Circulation of the Earth's Atmosphere includes the following (listed from the poles to the equator order here):

Polar Highs (high pressure)
Polar Easterlies (Easterly wind)
Subpolar Lows (low pressure)
Westerlies (Westerly wind)
Subtropical Highs (high pressure)
Trade Winds (Easterly wind)
ITCZ (low pressure)

Choosing one (1) pressure system and one (1) wind system listed above, describe the following:

1. Your Chosen Pressure System

What is causing the pressure to be high or low?
Is the air rising or sinking within your pressure cell? Why?
Is the air cooling or warming as it is rising or sinking?

2. Your Chosen Wind System

Where is your wind coming from (what pressure system is generating it)?

3. Provide a detailed explanation of how your chosen pressure system and chosen wind system interact with one another as they move across the surface of the Earth over time throughout the year.
