PowerPoint Presentation and accompanying five minute speaking presentation (to memorize) on
"How are amounts of greenhouse gases in the air, from the distant past, measured?"
Presentation requirements are:
1) 4 - 6 minutes (aim for 5 minutes)
2) Throughout your presentation, you must show slides/screens/etc., using a presentation program of your choice such as PowerPoint, with images illustrating what you are saying.
3) Your slides/screens/etc. should also have just the key points of your presentation. The majority of the information should come from your speech. You may either read note cards or present from memory, but do not "read the screen".
4) You must use the informative presentation style. (In the informative presentation, the student uses speaking skills, which communicate factual information; the presenter is not persuading or making any claims. The general purpose of this speech is to inform the audience. )
5) Explaining your topic in detail:
6) Explanation of your topic's scientific significance and real world applications: 1.5%
7) Presentation quality (images, speech, time):
8) Ask the class two follow up/review questions (What do you want your audience to remember from your presentation for the Final Exam?): 2%
9) Answer a follow up question from instructor: (The question will be a logical follow up to the information you presented, some possibilities are "What does this word/symbol mean?", "How is this related to another topic we have discussed?", and "How will be outcome be different if X does not happen?". You may look up the information, but the question must be answered within 1 minute, and by you rather than by your classmates.)
You may select any presentation topic you wish from the appropriate course readings or movie (see Course Outline), or otherwise related to the course topics we are studying, as long as
10) factual science-related information is the primary focus,
11) you will be able to clearly explain it to an audience of your classmates in 5 minutes
