In her piece Beyond Pro-Life and Pro-Choice, indigenous scholar Andrea Smith argues for a "reproductive justice" framework versus a reproductive rights paradigm, for she argues that the ability of women of color to truly experience reproductive freedom, they must be liberated in all contexts. In other words, the paradigm of reproductive justice asks "What conditions need to be met to ensure that women are able to freely choose if, when, how and under what conditions to have and raise children?" Often times, when we think of the reproductive rights movement, we think of issues like abortion access, or the right to birth control. Andrea Smith, and other feminist of color, argue that this focus is too narrow. For example, if an African-American woman is worried that her son might lose his life due to police violence, does she truly have "reproductive freedom"? Andrea Smith would argue that her ability to have and raise children is severely limited by the phenomenon of police brutality. Locating reproductive rights within a larger social context is the key of the reproductive justice movement, and this movement is directly influenced by the theory of intersectionality. For this assignment, you will practice thinking about reproductive rights through a reproductive justice framework and tying this back to the theory of intersectionality.
For this assignment:

Question 4. Reflect on how this image might represent an intersectional analysis. Can you find a quote from either the Andrea Smith or Patricia Hill Collins' text that relates to it?
