Critical Review

Question 1: with an article in the news media that reports the results of a scientific study on addiction.

Question 2: This should be the original study that the reporter referenced in the new media article that you found. The news article is considered a secondary source, whereas the original study is considered a primary source.

Question 3: Compare the original journal article (primary source) to the article that reported on it (secondary source). How accurately did the media report the study?

Question 4: Discuss these questions:

1. Where: Where did this article/Web page appear? Is this reasonable? Is the publishing entity respectable/responsible?
2. Who: Who wrote/published the article/Web page? What are their credentials? Are the credentials appropriate for their argument?
3. When: Is this current information? If yes, do you think it will stand the "test of time"? If not, is it outdated or is it classic?
4. What: What argument is/are the author(s) making? Is it logical? Based on what you know, is it reasonable? What evidence is given to support the argument? Can you think of evidence to refute it?
5. How: How was the supporting/refuting evidence collected? Is this credible? What kind of evidence do you think needs to be gathered to test the argument? Did the author(s) do this?
