Home Project: Improve Communication Flow
ACTIVITY:
You are the CEO of a large company of your choice (real or imaginary). Recently, you noticed that there seems to be a problem with the communication flow within the company. On the one hand, employees are unaware of some instructions that were given by the managers or have misunderstood them. On the other hand, important information was not forwarded by the employees or department leaders to managers, so that the managers could not make decisions accurately. In addition, the communication flow between departments also needs improvement.
You set yourself the task of solving this issue.
Section A
Research online to find at least 5 different electronic systems that support communication within an organisation (e.g., email). Briefly explain the functionality of each system.
Section B
You want to find out which of these systems is used most often by the members of your organisation. Create a survey to obtain this information. Each survey response should include the following data:
- Name of the respondent.
- For each system, how often they use the system on a scale from 1-10 (e.g., Email - 9).
- For each system, what they use the system for: a) communication within the department, b) communication with other departments, or c) both.
You can use Google Forms or another tool of your choice to create the survey, but make sure you have the response data in a spreadsheet.
Ask at least 20 of your friends or family members to fill out the survey. Make sure all answers all valid.
Section C
Use statistical analysis and create charts to show the most used communication systems (i) overall, (ii) for communication within a department, and (iii) for communication with other departments.
Section D
Decide which system(s) should be used from now for communication. Will different systems be used for communication within the department and for communication with other departments? Will all current systems still be used or will some not be used anymore? Explain your decisions based on the information you obtained in Section C.
