A 24 year old male presents to your office with hives on the trunk and extremities and swelling of the right side of his face and upper lip and submucosa. He says that the problem occurs several times per week and has been ongoing for 3 months. He denies any current or past symptoms of difficulty breathing and he is not in distress. What statement below regarding management is incorrect? He should be prescribed EpiPen which he should have on hand at all times. If any triggers are identified he should be instructed on avoidance. He should be instructed that if he were ever to have symptoms of laryngeal swelling, difficulty breathing, or any other concerns of airway compromise that he should use his EpiPen and call 911 immediately plus seek emergency room care. Reassurance is all that is needed. Inform this patient that his symptoms are transient and that most cases will completely resolve within 5 years.
