A 48-year-old man presents to clinic with a two-week history of "white stuff" on his tongue. He reports that the lesion is not itchy or painful. He is unable to remove it with his toothbrush. He is a smokeless tobacco user (one can per day for twenty years) and has moderate alcohol use. Physical exam reveals a white, sharply demarcated, and slightly elevated lesion on his tongue.
