Subjective: You are assessing a 3 year old who presents with a history of sudden onset of pain in her left elbow after being swung around in the yard by her dad. The child is crying and unwilling to move the affected arm. Parents report the child is otherwise healthy and has no chronic medical conditions. Objective: The child appears distressed, crying and holding her left arm close to her body. Pain 7/10 based on parents report. MSK: Child is guarding her arm and refuses to move it. There is no swelling, redness or obvious deformity noted. The child resists attempts to extend the elbow or move the forearm. Neurovascular: Cap refill less than 2 seconds, radial pulse present and equal bilaterally. Discuss pertinent questions to ask during the history, any diagnostic testing you wish to order, and interventions. Write out a detailed plan including management and parent education.
