You can talk about the history of Nigerian government development policy from the British colonial period (starting around 1920s), to independence (1960), to the independence years (up through to about 2000). This historically-grounded paper would need to incorporate a discussion of strategies and mechanisms for encouraging the cultivation of cash crop, marketing them, and exporting them -- both in the British era and throughout the early independence years. It should also explore the expanding role of petroleum extraction in the national economy, how the government proposed to manage this valuable resource, it marketing/export strategies, and to what extent it succeeded in attaining its macroeconomic and developmental goals. Throughout, the paper should also incorporate an analysis of how Nigeria managed recession and crashes in both cash crop prices and global oil prices throughout these periods.
