Question

J.L has multiple health concerns such as hypertension, history of myocardial infarction, shortness of breath, type II DM, and obesity. Another huge concern at this time is the patients mental health. J.L is states he is not sleeping, isn't participating in activities that he usually enjoys, states he has a fear of having another heart attack, and has been taking some of his wife's anxiety medication. It appears that J.L is experiencing complicated grief as evidenced by his prolonged and intense mourning. J.L's grief is affecting his every day life by not allowing him to enjoy social activities, and demonstrating anger. Ineffective coping r/t changes in health status and lifestyle. A nursing intervention would be to provide emotional support and encourage J.L to discuss his feelings about his current health concerns. J.L may need to talk about why he is so afraid of having another heart attack and educate him on ways he can take care of his health to help from having another MI. Another nursing diagnosis would be social isolation r/t fear of having another heart attack and changes in his work situation. It would be important to express the importance of slowly getting back into social activities
