Question

A 76-year-old male with a history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, osteoarthritis, gout, and a history of prostate cancer status post-radical prostatectomy presents to the clinic for a routine checkup. The nurse practitioner (NP) notices that the patient's blood pressure is high and that his heart rate is in the low 40s. The patient does not have any complaints. The NP wants to add an antihypertensive for better control of his blood pressure. Determine a first-line choice of medication for this patient. Alpha blockers Beta-blockers Calcium channel blockers Thiazide diuretics.
