We as nurses are held to the highest standard of the code of ethics. We have to remain selfless but empathic in many difficult situations. Even in the face of adversity we have the challenge of making the best decisions and providing top notch care even in dyer situations. I agree that the pandemic will probably go down in history as one of the most unsafe and unpleasant experiences of 21st century nursing. We are advocates of health and we must promote and maintain the quality of life while at the same time keeping our patients safe even in some of the worst environments. Every patient should be ensured the right to treatment and life if this is their choice and every human should also receive that right. Unfortunately this is controversial because not everyone is afforded this. An example of an ethical dilemma would be the denial of treatment or less access to a certain population of people. This could include someone of a different race or socioeconomic status. Our job as nurses is to do no harm and provide the best care for the best outcomes.
