Roxana had a highly successful work experience as part of her high school's community-based instruction program at a copy center in the small college town where she lives. She loved the job and the staff at the copy center, and her work focused on running two of the machines for specialized copying. Learning to operate the machines required mastering a complex series of steps, but the work was repetitive, Roxana really enjoyed it, and she became quite skilled at doing it. She was so good at the job and got along so well at the copy center that Roxana's team decided she should stay exclusively in that job as a paid work experience for her remaining year in high school rather than exploring other work experiences. Roxana developed skills and confidence in doing that one job in that one business. Her instructional program did not focus on teaching her to generalize the skills that made her so successful at the copy center into other career fields. Roxana, her family, and her transition team were delighted when she was offered a permanent job at the copy center after graduation. She worked there for 2 years.
