Benner's stages of clinical competence are a hierarchy of skill sets within the nursing profession. The stages illustrate the achievement process a nurse goes through throughout their career in order to build their professional skills acquisition and role development. Benner's stages of clinical competence include novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert (Potter et al., 2023).
