Maternal and Infancy. You are working as a health outreach worker with a clinic downtown Toronto. You are assigned a new client, Heather, who is a 17-year girl who is a single mother of her ten-month-old child, Damien. Heather's income is Ontario Works and the Child Tax Benefit. Heather identifies that during pregnancy she had very extreme morning sickness and as a result was prescribed Diclectin which helped some. However, Heather stated that shew as still very exhausted during her pregnancy and was not able exercise very much. When Damien was born the doctors identified he was tongue tied and as a result performed a quick procedure to relieve the tongue. Heather stated that the first 6 months were very difficult as Damien was colicky and also cluster fed. Although Heather tried to breast feed it was too painful and as a result Damien was in a low weight percentile before going on formula. Heather self-identified that she experienced postpartum depression but never accessed resources to help her cope with the mental health struggle, Heather identifies that these feeling still "come and go." When asked about Damien's father, Heather stated that he does not want to help with the child and "probably couldn't afford it anyways." When asked about family and other support Heather states that her parents stop by once and a while but are strict Catholics and do not want to support her otherwise. Heather states that she has friends but none of them are parents and "only want to party." Heather would like to engage with other mothers socially but does not know where to look. She is currently residing in precarious housing and would like to obtain more independent housing.
