Write a response to: Healthcare in Turkey is financed through government, private, and social sources. The government budget is the primary source of funding and is financed by general taxation at the national and local levels. Private funding is covered by individuals and businesses that want private insurance which is financed through either self-pay or employee benefits. Some individuals choose private insurance to help pay for a portion or the entirety of their healthcare costs but also to secure faster access to medical care, a wider range of healthcare facilities and specialists, and coverage for elective procedures and treatments. In 2014, 82% of the population was covered by social security (Johnson et al., 2018). Social health insurance is covered through mandatory contributions. These contributions can come from employees and employers. Three organizations in Turkey provide funding. The Civil Servants Pension Fund is paid for by employees and then the state will match and provide funds to the state employees and their families. Social Insurance Institution is for industry workers and is funded by employers and payroll deductions. The Social Security Organization provides funds to the self-employed through premiums they pay themselves.
