For this Assessment, you will play the role of Medical Administrative Assistant Manager. You are currently hiring a new front desk employee for your medical facility. Their job description includes:

• Answering the phone in a professional but polite manner
• Registering patients
• Keeping the front of the office clean and up to code
• Updating charts when a patient returns
• Providing documents/copies
• Billing insurance companies

Upon their hiring, they will need to attend an orientation. As the Medical Administrative Assistant Manager, it is your job to put together this orientation. One important aspect of this orientation is explaining the legal consequences and risks associated with the improper exchange of patient information and EHRs to the new hire. 

Using what you have learned from the lectures, in which you will compose your thoughts on this topic before presenting it to the new hire during their orientation. Be sure to address the following: 

• Identify and explain the legal requirements behind the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Describe how information is released (ROI) and summarize the proper technique for releasing information, as well as the fines and consequences of not following the proper technique.
• Identify who should be contacted for any violations of HIPAA, both in office and to the government, and describe the course of action if violation occurs.
• Point out where the new hire can find more information about HIPAA.
