Objectives:
- Research role of HIM within an HIE
- Understand operational needs of an HIE relating to HIM
- Discover legislative requirements that could require HIM related policies and procedures.
Instructions:
A health information exchange (HIE) is being established in your area and there are openings for individuals with an HIM background. You learn that one of the primary taskswill be writing policies and procedures.
Research the HIM role in an HIE and identify five policy topics that a HIM professional could contribute to an HIE setting.
Briefly state in a short paragraph why or how each topic could benefit an HIE. You can reference legislative requirements such as HIPAA, HITECH, etc. as part of your answer.
A formal report is not necessary. Number each topic, state the topic and compose a short paragraph for each as mentioned above. The assignment is not to write the policy/procedure, only the topic.(up to 8 points for each topic)
