21 year old college female presents to the student health center with increasing fatigue over the past week. She is complaining of sore throat, headache, earache, chills and fever. Cells found in the differential: Physical Exam. Throat and tonsils swollen with white patches. Swollen cervical lymph nodes are also noted. CBC Patient Results Normal Values Results N or ABN RBC 4.88 x 1012/L 4.0-5.0 X 1012/L HGB 13.4 g/dL 12-16 g/dL HCT 41.1 % 36-46% MCV 84.2 fL 80-100fL MCH 27.3 pg 28-34pg MCHC 33.0 g/dL 32-36 g/dL RDW 12.2 12-14.6 WBC 14.9 x 109/L 4.5-11.0 X 109/L Diff N seg 24% 40-80% Lymph 73% 25-35% Mono 0% 2-10% Eos 3% 1-5% Baso 0% 0-1% PLT 333 x 109/L 150-450 X 109/L RBC morphology: Normocytic, normochromic WBC morphology: Most of the lymphocytes are reactive. They are large cells with a smudged chromatin pattern and abundant cytoplasm with radial and/or peripheral basophilia. Some of the larger cells have finer chromatin and nucleoli. PLT morphology: Within normal limits
