Health care is both a business and a delivery system. It is important to remember that businesses in the United States operate in a market economy, meaning that competition is central feature. Health care is a business, and therefore is not exempt from competition. The current health care system in the USA is not the best compared to other developed countries according to my own opinion. Although the United States spends more per capita on health care that any other nation it has been able to provide universal care to all Americans.

Currently the United States has a health care system based on insurance coverage, which is a fee for service that entails, providers are rewarded for the amount of services provided. The majority of Americans are covered by private/employer-based insurance but about 40.3 million Americans are uninsured, this are individuals who fall below the income level which would give them access to Medicaid. The uninsured, although they receive health care, the cost that they incur are so expensive. The main reason that has made this health care costs go high is because of change from reimbursement to a capitation system. This has made this current system to be inconsistent in terms of delivery of health care services.

The government should look at other countries for potential solutions to the current menace that we are in. The American government should also change some of it health care policies if it indeed wants to make health care affordable to every citizen. This includes better quality care for lower income citizens, and facilities in areas that are disenfranchised like Latino and African American communities. Additionally, it is important to give added care to women, especially those of child bearing age. While there are great advancements in America, the ones for human rights and equality can use more attention. This is especially true of the American health care system that is infiltrated by large corporations and pharmacuetical companies only looking to turn a profit.
