Race is always going to be a health care disparity in any community. I hate to say it, but it's sad and true. People including healthcare workers are going to look at the color of someone's skin and determine how to take care of them. It has been proven that Black people get lesser care than their White counterparts. The statistics are shocking. "Black people life expectancy is nearly five years shorter compared to White people, Black infants have a more than two times higher infant mortality rate than White infants, and Black people are nearly three times more likely than White people to die due to pregnancy-related reasons" (Artiga, 2022). These numbers are due to the access to healthcare and insurance. It also has to do with where they live and their upbringing. To address the insurance aspect, us as healthcare workers need to help assist clients with getting health insurance if needed and provide them with resources especially when they come into our office/building. We can direct them to the health department and or even health them fill out an insurance form if needed. I know I have helped clients in my office before fill out.
