Task - Health and Hygiene Scenario:

You are a new employee working in a service located in a regional town in Western Australia. The services building is an older structure and was not purpose build to facilitate this community service. It lacks the use of hygienic facilities and/or equipment's, such as hand basins, hand blower facilities, wheelchair accessible washrooms, educational posters, manuals and/or procedures. Your services manager announced this morning, that there is a breakout of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease in your service which could be due to not correctly following hygienic procedures. It also has been identified, that 2 of the staff members are not efficient in following hygienic practices procedures and have not undertaken any mandatory training.

Your manager has asked you to "Research "the most current information to meet legislative and regulatory requirements for the service.

You are also required to develop an action plan based on the research outcome. Consider practices such as: Promoting a safe and hygienic environment, Sustainable use of resources e.g. paper towel vs cloth towel vs sanitisers, vs a hand blower, use of suitable PPE for various situations, importance of communication if there is breakthrough of infectious disease and how to promote infection control, protocol of informing the Department of Health, and minimum mandatory training requirements.
