In my recorded lecture Ethics in Accounting, I mention how Andy Fastow, former CFO of Enron, held up in one hand an award he won for being CFO of the year, and in the other hand, he held up his prison card. He said: "I got both of these things for doing the same thing". What did Fastow mean by this? He was breaking all the rules of accounting and still won an award because he didn't get caught until later. He felt that he was wrongly put in jail. He was a talented accountant who decided to commit a crime. He followed the rules in a way which mislead the public.
