A 25-year-old man presents to the clinic with reports of ankle pain x 3 days. He reports that while playing basketball 3 days ago he jumped for a ball and landed "badly" on his foot with his ankle rolled inwards. He stumbled to the ground because of immediate pain. He does not recall hearing or feeling a "pop." He was able to stand with the support of his teammates, but limped to the bench and was unable to continue playing. He tried rest, ice, compression, and elevation for a few days but the ankle swelling did not improve. Today he rates the pain at rest as 3/10 and 7/10 with weight bearing. Ibuprofen 400mg every 4 hours provides some relief. He denies numbness or tingling in the affected foot. He denies any PMH. Negative for smoking, alcohol, or illicit drug use.
