Should you use IoT to keep track of your belongings?
NFC devices, such as Apple's AirTag, are IoT devices that enable you to attach or insert a small tracker to your phone, purse, laptop, or other item. The tracker enables you to find the location of the item using an app. This can be beneficial if you misplace your keys or if your bag gets stolen. However, as these types of devices are small, they may be attached or placed without your knowledge, which enables people to track your location or activities. The same apps that detect your device's location also can alert you if an unrecognizable tag is nearby, such as in your car. You then can disable the device from tracking you, or, if the tag belongs to someone known to you, you can ignore the alert.
