Many struggle with determining their areas of competence and express concerns that they are not competent enough in areas where they have ample experience. This lack of confidence in one's abilities often requires some additional reinforcement and encouragement within the work environment; however, some work environments do not offer this support. Have you ever encountered an environment in which asking questions, making mistakes, or needing support appeared unacceptable? What variables likely contributed to this? How would you create an environment that promoted asking questions and openly talking about competency and areas of strength and needs?

Or, if you have worked in an environment that was more supportive, describe some of the ways in which you and others were made to feel comfortable discussing competency.
