1. Choose a topic
2. Tell a story from your worklife about the topic. What was good about your story and what was bad?
3. Identify the insights you have seen from the telling of the story about the topic
4. Explain what you will do differently the next time a similar situation arises. In other words, how can you be a better leader by changing your behaviour given the insights you have had.
5. What does your journal make you think about now? What are you left wondering about after re reading your journal? You should post at least 5 questions.
Topic 1: Suppose you are a counsellor. Consider your most recent experience working on a dysfunctional or ineffective team. Upon reflection what was your contribution to the dysfunction? Does this remind you of anything else? What are you learning about yourself? Could have helped the team to be more functional and effective? What are you now curious about?
Topic 2: Kouzes and Posner maintain "Leadership is a relationship". What are some personal examples from your personal experience (either positive or negative)? How do those examples make you feel? What can you learn by reflecting on this experience? What are you now curious about?
Topic 3: Have you ever been deeply committed to a value? How has your behaviour evidenced your value, or has it? (E.g. "What did it look like in action"?) Have you ever crossed the line between your honouring deep commitment and imposing your will on others? In thinking about your values and behavior, what insights do you now have? What big questions does it raise for you?
