Have we seen any species that will soon be exinct?

This passage of the book noted the last people to have ever seen the "original penguin." This made me think about what future generations well think about us. They will look at our accounts and note how we demolished ecosystems and habitats knowing full well the consequences that would bring. I am very curious to know some of the species that we may be the last to see. It would be incredibly sad but interesting to be the last people to see a species. Maybe we can learn from the people who killed the last Auk, and be more aware of populations.
