Question: Again, as a starting point, I am asking you to share your personal experiences in conducting a job search, the interview process and the results - both good and bad experiences. At any time do you feel the interview process and the type of questions asked were either irrelevant or inappropriate? Keep the OUCH Test in mind: Every employment question or job requirement should be able to pass the OUCH test. Is it - Objective? If you can apply subjective interpretation to it, don't use it. Quantifiable and measurable are key indicators to being objective. Uniform in its application? Make sure that you apply or ask this same question to everyone. If you apply it to just 'females' or minorities, or handicapped or any protected class - chances are you are going to be challenged and in trouble. Consistent in effect? Double and triple check to make sure this has a consistent effect on all potential candidates and doesn't unintentionally discriminate against any protected class. Have job relatedness? Some criteria or questions may have very specific requirements for a specific job. Ideally, every question and job requirement should pass all four questions but once in while a job will have a very specific requirement that may negate one or all of the above three questions. This should be very rare but if it meets this last question, is it probably legal.
